I’ve come up with the majority of my good ideas in the shower. Whether it be a new song, a solution to a work problem or an awesome gift idea, the shower is where it’s at. So, when I saw the AquaNotes, I went crazy with excitement. No more will I have to steal my niece’s bathtub crayons to fulfill my shower note-taking.

What kind of ideas have you crazy kids come up with in the shower?

I found this video on Bits n’ Pieces, a blog featuring lovely tidbits procured from the internet. The band is Donora, based out of Pittsburgh and brimming with musical delights. The hooper is Lauren, a wicked hoop dancer.

Come Home Mr. Ill

Tommy Ill is one of my favorite (favourite!) New Zealand musicians. His songs are ridiculously catchy and his humor (humour!) is always spot on. He’s played at a couple of Makeshift shows in the past and always delivered a great performance along with his right hand man, Buck Beauchamp. Matchsticks, his last release was met with rave reviews across NZ and the single “Letters to the Editor” received heaps of airtime. “Come Home Mr. Ill” is a new video produced by Brian Hainsworth who Tommy also worked with for the “Letters to the Editor” video. Mr. Hainsworth describes the video process: “We wanted to make a video on a tiny budget that looked like we had a huge budget but were trying to pretend our big budget video was low budget, but actually we had no budget.” Precisely.

Check out the video and enjoy it until your eyes fall out. Then wait a little while until his new EP drops and BUY IT!

Hello, Picture Book

Posted by: team sweet

September 15th, 2009 >> Uncategorized

Before I left New Zealand, my lovely friend Mel and I spent some time perusing a book store in search of gifts. There’s nothing like being surrounded with endless possibilities, and that’s the feeling I get when looking up at the shelves upon shelves of books waiting to be plucked and ingested. One book in particular caught my eye - The Great Paper Caper. Right away I was attracted to the illustration style. The characters in the book are tiny-eyed and stick-legged, making for a very charming group. The text is sparse but witty and charming, with the forest dwellers looking to solve the mystery of disappearing trees from their home. The author and illustrator is Oliver Jeffers, an Irish artist, designer and writer now living in NYC. He’s no stranger to the children’s picture book, with five already under his belt. I’m so in love with the illustrations, I’m thinking about meticulously cutting out the pages and framing them to put up in my next apartment. is it wrong to cut up a book?!

Until next time…. frosted love to you!

Mythical Mondays

Forgive the shoddy craftsmanship of the above banner for today but all I have  to work with at the moment is an old scanner, a hamster wheel and some chewing gum. Once I am settled, better images promised. But I digress – Behold Mythical Mondays! This is a new feature I’m trying out  in which I ask my niece to either create a new mythical creature or to draw an existing one. Today she chose to create her own. And so we have…

Today’s creature:

puttrfly, indeed.

Putrfly (animus buttputterus)

My niece says: “A putrfly has two heads – one at each end of it’s long body. It eats from the top end and drinks from the bottom end… it’s bum… but there’s a head!… at this end.”

She just keeps learning everyday, aww. Enjoy your day, whether you are reading this on a Monday or not!

Words of Advice for Today

July 14th, 2009 >> Treats, Uncategorized

Take some time out to be more aware of your surroundings. It’s easy to frantically move from one project to another. Make time to clear a space for yourself. Enjoy life because even though we know it goes by ridiculously fast, we still tend to sweat the small stuff. Breathe in. Good. Now out. Yessss.

My niece and I made some play dough today (thank you CRAFT!) and here is the result of our efforts in sculpting. A dozen roses anyone?

Smell a rose or two

Hoop It Out!

Brusies are still cool.Learning new hoop tricks = bruising

Fact.

Lately I’ve been hooping for hours in my sister’s backyard amongst a twilight backdrop with bats darting overhead and lightning bugs circling around my legs. It’s quite enchanting.

I thought I’d post a link to a hooping article I wrote for my talented friend Jenna’s blog Kraftworkin Kitsch.

What hobbies have been taking you into the great outdoors lately?
